Saucony Ride 5 much better than its predecessor

After purchasing the Saucony Ride 4 to try to save some bucks on the higher priced Ride 5, I was disappointed by the heavier, "chunkier" 12mm heel on the Ride 4 which Saucony remedied with the lighter, faster, more responsive Ride 5. Saucony makes a really comfortable running shoe for both training and racing; for purely training, the cheaper, older Ride 4 version may suit your needs just fine for a bargain price of around $60-$75, but I highly recommend the Ride 5 over the 4 because of its lighter, more responsive 8mm heel which will make a difference on those shorter, faster runs (5k & 10k runs.) Spend the extra $25 or so and pick up a pair of these, you won't be disappointed!

Switched to these Saucony shoes from my Addidas that had a much higher heel-to-toe differential. I went from 12mm to 8mm. It actually helped my plantar condition in the left foot. I will be purchasing another pair before this year's style is dicontinued! (They seem to change them every year as soon as I find one I like)As far as colour - I have 2 pairs of the blue/black/orange but there are other colours if you prefer. Although, the darker colour doesn't show the dirt as much. I found that I needed the new pair after about 3 months of running 15-25 miles per week because the cushioning was breaking down and I had worn a significant amount of tread off them.

I ran my first marathon in a pair of these and now I'm on my second pair. I've drifted around trying all sorts of running shoes and these are my favorites so far. The Ride 5 weighs less than the Ride 4 (mostly taken off of the heal) which is awesome (because I have a mid-foot strike so the heel padding would be no benefit to me anyways)! As I run I've noticed they are lighter. The laces are great and I've never had a problem with them coming undone even with sloppy knot tying.
