Xodus 3.0 Review

After having a great experience on technical trails with the Saucony Peregrine 2, and a not so great experience with the Brooks Cascadia 7 (toe box was too tight in the Cascadias which lead to a minor stress fracture), I knew I wanted something in between these two shoes to wear as an everyday trainer. I'm an avid trail runner and am 2 weeks away from running a trail 50K. During training I have logged 50+ miles/week on trails consisting of mid-high elevation change, rock, root, mud, etc. The Peregrine is a great shoe, but has more of a "minimal" feel to it. The Brooks Cascadia was excellent (very versatile & supportive), other than the toe box being too snug for me personally. I'm a bigger guy (6'3 185). I went on the hunt for a "more supportive" shoe to wear as an everyday trainer that had the fit & grittiness of the Peregrine, with the support of the Cascadia to save my legs on longer runs. Enter the Saucony ProGrid Xodus 3.0. Killer shoe! Put my custom inserts in them & hit a 20 miler straight out of the box. With a 4mm heel-toe drop & a gritty sole, they provide you with the support you need while still allowing you to feel the trail, and adjust to it depending on the terrain. A great shoe for any/all neutral runners. My only wish would be for them to have a little less bulk. Weighing in at just under 12oz., this shoe can begin to feel a bit clunky on a 20+ mile run...but it will absolutely help to save your legs! That being said, I highly recommend this shoe, and will continue to wear mine until they have holes in them. 4 out of 5 strictly because of the 12oz. weight. Cheers

This pair retired two worn out pairs of trail shoes. Montrail and Nike. This is my first Saucony.Montrail were much stiffer and less comfortable than these, especially on road - but bombproof AND ventilated.Nike were comparably comfy but didn't wear out well.Pros:Cushion well, very comfy from the first use.minimal heal-2-toe drop - a pro if like me, that's the way you like it.Grip well on most terrain i've tried.Not too heavy for a trail shoe.No more undone shoelaces with the tongue shoelace pocket. great feature.look well ventilated with all the mesh - but gotta wait for summer to see how they really do.Price is right!Cons:Not too grippy on asphalt, and do "ok" loose-over-hardpack.Very slippery when turning a corner on WET asphalt (reason for only 4 stars, imho)

Great shoes for a fair price.

I bought these shoes for a 40 mile ultra, and they are very comfortable, fit right and liik great. I use Saucony Pro Grid shoes for road running and now for trails also, I also own the Brooks for trails and these are just as comfortable and good as those.I have not yet tried them on a wet trail, only on dry ones so I dont know how they will perform when wet, the brooks are great for those types of trails.Over all I am very satisfied with these.
