Interesting shoe, similar to the 890 series.

I picked up the green camo version when Amazon radically lowered the price. Size 12 fits true for me. I have some of the 890 (version 1's) and this shoe is very similar in style to that shoe line. It is a little more cushioned and built up in the heel though as there is some sort of gel like material in the heel area that the 890's don't have. The retail is similar to the 890's (which are very highly rated and into their 3rd version). However the 884 version 1's are mostly at 50-60 dollars most places on the web right now and at the price are a good deal.The shoe is light for being cushioned. The build quality is as good as the 890's and in line with most offering in the 60-100 dollar range. The non-mesh areas of the shoe are a synthetic material of some sort that is like a shiny fake leather. I can see where maybe someone would think that is a bit cheesy but overall the camo version are an intersting take on shoe colors. They will start a conversation. The shoe is a decent runner as well though. The rev-lite material is very good at being both cushioned and light. I am 205lbs and these provide ample cushioning for me (as do the 890 which use it as well).

Shoes arrived very quickly. They fit a little tight compared to my Nikes. Definitely a different look to them. Hope to wear them a lot this summer.

Cheaply-made upper

The M884 doesn't fit well due to tightness in the middle of the shoe; it's much narrower than my other New Balances and much less comfortable. The sole appears well-made but the upper feels cheap and flexes oddly; I imagine it will be coming apart much earlier than the sole after a few miles on it. I'm still a big fan of NB but these were a miss.
