Wonderful Shoe
By CommoMP
I am currently stationed in Afghanistan for a deployment for the U.S. Army and had brought my 5 fingers to run around in. The army has taken a personal issue with the 5 fingers and is actually changing it's dress code for uniforms to include the exclusion of the 5 finger shoe. So I had to find a new shoe to wear in order to continue running around in my P.T.'s. I came across these in my search for a minimalist shoe and I can say that I'm pretty much happy with this shoe and will suggest for my fellow army brethren who run in minimalist shoes to buy these, especially here in Afghanistan where the roads we run on tend to be a bit rocky.

Tough Mudder Tested
By Todd B.
I normally wear a men's size 12 medium width shoe. My foot is on the narrow side of medium. I purchased a men's size 12 in the New Balance Minimalist shoe with the intensions of running the 2012 Cascade Wisconsin Tough Mudder. The shoe fit perfect and had no hot spots, pinch points, or any other discomfort. I slowly broke into these shoes by limiting distance on concrete city sidewalks until I was running five miles comfortably, after six weeks. I wear socks with these shoes, and have not tried them without socks. The Tough Mudder course was a twelve mile off-road trail type course with gravel, mud, water crossings, tree roots, ponds to swim through, plywood obstacles to negotiate,...an all-around workout for a pair of shoes. The traction throughout the course was excellent. I had no problems with traction while climbing or running on the plywood obstacles. There was no suction-cup effect in the deep muddy sections of the course, and the shoe did not collect an excessive amount of mud on the sole. The shoe held very little water and I believe they would have dried quickly during the run if I had not worn socks. I believe the shoes are comfortable enough to go without socks...I might try this next time. I did pull the shoes off midway, to remove some mud and gravel that accumulated inside the shoe from the muddy water sections of the course. The shoes clean up very well. I washed down the shoes in the sink and threw them in the washer along with the clothes that I wore for the run. The shoes came out looking pretty close to what they looked like prior to running the Tough Mudder.I highly recommend these shoes, and others that I ran the Tough Mudder with wore the Merrell Trail Gloves, and highly recommended them. It's best to try them both on to see which fits your foot shape, best.
